people or objects. At first glance,

The he or she (his
or her) construction is awkward, so rewrite the sentence with a plural subject
and a plural personal pronoun.
A flight attendant
takes his or her responsibility seriously during in-flight emergencies.
Flight attendants take
their responsibilities seriously during in-flight emergencies.
