Using Coordinating Conjunctions


A statement with a comma splice can be fixed by inserting a coordinating conjunction after the comma between the two sentences.  (See discussion of coordinating conjunctions in this chapter.) 
For example:                           Mighty Mouse had been absent from movie screens for a number of years, but Mickey Mouse is doing well in Disney’s theme parks. 
Here the coordinating conjunction but has been put behind the comma, separating the two sentences.
